The Organic Transmissions exhibition brought together the work of Belgian artist Hennie Mahieu and Berlin-born artist Jerome Graff, exploring natural forms and movement through painting, mobiles, and multimedia art. The exhibition aimed to introduce both artists to Barcelona’s art scene.
With just ten days to conceptualize, curate, and promote the exhibition, I coordinated the installation, artist management, and event logistics. We creatively transformed the narrow streets of El Born into an integral part of the exhibition. A live dance performance among the artworks captivated the audience and added an immersive element to the event.

Background
Creating moments where art, people, and emotion connect – that’s what I love most. The exhibition Organic Transmissions was born from the idea of bringing together two artistic voices united by their organic visual language. Belgian artist Hennie Mahieu explores fluid, natural forms in her paintings and mobiles. Jerome Graff, a Berlin-born abstract painter and multimedia artist now based in Barcelona, investigates the dialogue between movement, pop culture, and bodily transformation.
The goal was to give both artists a stage and introduce them to Barcelona’s vibrant art scene.

Challenge
The main challenge was time, with only ten days to conceptualize, curate, install, and promote the entire exhibition. The budget was very limited, and access to the venue was granted only on the day of the opening.
The space itself, a high-ceilinged brick atelier in the heart of El Born, was ideal in atmosphere but presented logistical hurdles. Situated in a narrow side street, we had to find creative ways to attract attention and draw people in from outside.

Approach
The exhibition took place in one of El Born’s many narrow alleys. Thus, we decided to make the street itself part of the installation. Candles and subtle decorations along the façades created a warm, inviting atmosphere that caught the eye of passersby even before the opening began.
As curator and organizer, I managed the installation of the artworks, coordinated the event flow, and led the team from the artists, DJ and live band to the photographer and bar staff. A highlight of the evening was the live dance performance, staged among the artworks and capturing the audience’s full attention.

Result
Despite the tight schedule, Organic Transmissions became a great success. Within just an hour of the opening, not only the gallery space but the entire street was filled with visitors.
The response was overwhelming. Many guests praised the curatorial dialogue between the works, the unique atmosphere, and the seamless interplay of art, music, and performance. For both artists, the exhibition marked an important milestone. Each sold two works and significantly increased their visibility within Barcelona’s art scene.
